Pertamina BMW Develop Electric Vehicle Fueling Technology

JAKARTA, NNC - PT Pertamina partnering with BMW Group Indonesia, is ready to present the future of electric vehicle fueling technology.

As a first step, Pertamina will be creating it in a Green Energy Station (GES) pilot project as a new ecosystem for electric vehicles in Indonesia.

Pertamina Corporate Communication Vice President Adiatma Sardjito said Saturday that the GES technology was intended to support the Government's commitment on the Conference of the Parties 21st (COP21) in Paris in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and simultaneously demonstrating Pertamina's readiness in facing global shifts in the automotive world.

"This step is imperative to learn the best concept to guarantee the convenience of services for electric vehicle users," he said.

Therefore, Pertamina will continue to work with related parties to develop this concept both in terms of technology and convenient access.

Adiatma says the GES technology consists of three main concepts, namely the Green Concept, which has a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) in gas station areas. Second is the Future Concept, which has EV Charging Station, and the third, Digital Concept with non-cash payment with MyPertamina featuring self-service.

"Pertamina sees that battery charging business will become an integral part of Pertamina's gas station business in the future, therefore, collaboration with electric car manufacturer such as the BMW Group is needed," Adiatma said.

On the other hand, BMW Group Indonesia Corporate Communication Vice President Jodie Otania says BMW Group Indonesia is a pioneer brand that created electric vehicles and the first to launch a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in Indonesia.

To encourage the readiness of electric vehicle ecosystem, BMW Group Indonesia conducts an in-depth technological education on electric vehicle technology, implementing grid charging in other countries and testing the benefits and operational costs of electric vehicles.

This is done to support Pertamina and other service providers to be able to prepare a charging station for research and development infrastructure of electric vehicles in Indonesia.

"We expect this educational support technology can bring the development of adequate infrastructure for electric vehicles, particularly in the Jakarta area and provide convenience for all electric vehicle users. Today's important moment signifies another form of commitment from the BMW Group Indonesia and PT Pertamina in developing the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia," said Jodie.

Pertamina Green Energy Station is based on the global shift in the automotive world from the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) to the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) and Electric Vehicles (EV), which are marked by changes in the use of gasoline into PHEV and EV batteries.

This is predicted to be a substitution for fuel refill for vehicles currently run by Pertamina, Antara reported.
